The Home Ownership Programme (Housing NZ Corporation)
Executive Summary
This MMTB proposal is part of a wider HNZC project to educate participants nationwide to offer pre-purchase support and advice before owning a home.
The MMTB have appointed Kowhai Consulting Ltd as Project Managers to recruit some 150 participants to attend Home Ownership Education se min ars in Maniapoto. The modules will be delivered on a monthly basis over the 1 year contract period. The courses will be run between October 2006 – June 2007
Home Ownership in New Zealand
Home ownership is beco min g less affordable for many people in Maniapoto and many other main and rural centres. The key deter min ants that have been identified to hinder home ownership include low income levels, inability to save for a deposit, debt servicing ability (or lack of) and escalating land / housing costs.
The Home Ownership Course
The aim of the HOEP Course is to assist first home buyers towards successful home ownership by providing quality education programmes that equip participants with the skills they need to both consider and approach home ownership. The intention is that the course will have national relevance while still being able to be targeted at particular groups. Such groups have been identified by the HNZC as persons on a low to modest income.
The course consists of 8 modules: 6 modules must be delivered while 2 can be either delivered or self-learning modules. Delivery of the first 6 modules should involve a min imum of 12 hours actual delivery time. The MMTB delivery programme for will comprise 15 hours delivery (class) time / 6 modules.
Trainers will come from the MMTB Project Team and in addition we will engage expert guest speakers (eg, valuers, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, budget advisory services) to participate where relevant available.
There will be four workshops offered:
Te Awamutu 25 participants
Otorohanga 25 participants
Te Kuiti 25 participants
Te Awamutu 25 participants
The first Workshop will be in Te Awamutu on October 7 th and 8 th at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Apakura Campus. The Modules will be covered between the hours of 8:30pm and 4:00pm over Saturday and Sunday.
