There is going to be a hui held on the TPPA at the Hamilton Novotel on 22 June at 5.30pm-8pm.

The hui will be led by Dr David Walker, New Zealand’s Chief Trade Negotiator, who will explain the outcomes of the TPP negotiations and clarify what it does and what it does not do.  He will also talk about the impact of the TPP on some key business sectors of our regional economy including forestry, agriculture and fisheries.  The meeting is an open hui and we encourage as many of our whaanau attend.

TPP Hui have been held around the country including Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Rotorua, Whangarei and in Nelson.

Waikato-Tainui have made a number of submissions on these issues.  At a high level, they have focused on ensuring that Waikato-Tainui rights and interests are preserved and focusing on a few key issues including:

• Continued engagement with Waikato-Tainui through the ratification process;
• The Treaty Exception clause;
• The Investor State Dispute provisions; and
• The economic effects (requesting that an economic analysis is undertaken).
