For Maniapoto, the aspirations outlined in the agreement are founded on the principles of “mana tuku iho,” the inherent wisdom of Maniapoto tūpuna, who determined that the “mana whatu ahuru” (sacred wisdom) would guide the generations of Maniapoto and their many hapū and descendants to achieve prosperity and ongoing survival through a unity of purpose, the upholding of the language of Maniapoto, cultural identity, kaitiaki responsibilities and whakapapa connections to achieve mana motuhake (self-authority and sustainable development).

You can help by participating in the early conversation we are having to identify our 40 year plan. We will be asking ourselves questions like; what values are important to guide the iwi for the future, where does te reo, mātauranga and identity fit, what does wellbeing look like for the iwi and what should be the priorities for the iwi.
There are so many important issues and we want the iwi to be engaged in this conversation. The agencies identified in this section include;
- Ministry of Education
- Ministry of Vulnerable Children – Oranga Tamariki
- Ministry of Social Development
- Ministry of Justice
- New Zealand Police
- Social Investment Agency.
There will also be a range of agreements with the Department of Conservation, Minister for Primary industries, Ministry of Innovation and Employment, Museum of New Zealand (Te Papa Tongawera), Department of Internal Affairs (Te Tari Taiwhenua), Ministry of Culture and Heritage (Manatū Taonga) and the Ministry for the Environment.
The Crown requires that settlement redress must transfer to a Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE).
