As you know from 11:59pm Tuesday 17th August, all of Aotearoa moved to Alert Level 4.

All of New Zealand will remain in Alert Level 4 for 3 days, except for Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula which we anticipate will likely remain at Level 4 for the next 7 days.

This is a response to a community outbreak in Auckland which is currently under investigation and possibly linked to the Delta variant.

We know the Delta variant is highly infectious. To protect yourself and others, make sure you:
  • Stay at home in your bubble
  • Wear a face covering, and keep a 2m social distance
  • Wash and sanitise your hands, often
  • If you have cold or flu symptoms, call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice about getting a test.

Covid-19 Tangihanga Guidelines

At Alert Level 4, gathering together for funerals and tangihanga is not permitted. No-one, except the whānau pani who has been living with the loved one who has passed, may be physically present during any tangi, cremation, or burial arrangements or processes.

Unwell or vulnerable people within the whānau pani must remain at home and not attend any tangi, cremation or burial arrangements or processes. This is to protect everyone from further community transmission of COVID-19 and will save lives. Consider using technology options so the wider whānau can participate remotely in cremation or burial processes
