MMTB Triennial Elections

The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) triennial elections process is now underway. Nominations for the election of six generally elected members have now been closed. Confirmation of these candidates will be updated asap

The MMTB are made up of the following trustees:

Six (6)        trustees generally elected
Seven (7)   trustees appointed by the seven (7) MMTB regional management committees (RMCs),
with one appointment per RMC made.
One (1)      trustee appointed by the Kaumātua Kaunihera o Maniapoto
One (1)      trustee is appointed by Kīngi Tuheitia

The role of a Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) Trustee is to govern the organisation. As a prospective candidate, this will be your key role and it will be expected that you will possess the necessary skills to enhance the governance of the organisation.

General Election

Voting method:

The Election of Trustees will be carried out by postal and internet voting using the First Past the Post (FPP) voting method. Candidate names will be in alphabetical order on the voting documents.

You must be of Maniapoto descent, 18 years or older and registered on the MMTB register to vote.

Enrolment requirements:

Each Iwi member of the MMTB who is 18 years old or over is entitled to enrol on the register (with valid postal address details). Voting papers will be sent to all tribal members whose names appear on the register as at 12 noon on Wednesday 7 April 2021.

It is the responsibility of each adult beneficiary of the MMTB to have their name and correct postal address included on the Roll.

Regional Management Committee & Te Kaumātua Kaunihera o Maniapoto Election

Voting method:

The Election of Regional Management Committee (RMC) / Te Kaumātua Kaunihera o Maniapoto (TKKOM) representatives will be carried out by vote at the advertised hui. The method of voting will be decided at the hui.

Enrolment requirements:

Those eligible to stand as candidates must be registered on the MMTB Tribal Register at the time the RMC / TKKOM holds their hui to elect their RMC / TKKOM representative to the Board. They must also be living in New Zealand at the time of standing, and throughout their term of office.

It is the responsibility of each Maniapoto Tribal member to have their name and correct postal address included on the Roll.

Nomination: 

Maniapoto Marae across the rohe will elect their representative to attend the relevant RMC hui and participate in the election.

The TKKOM representative will be elected by kaumātua at the hui.

Kīngitanga representative: The Kīngitanga representative will be appointed by Kīngi Tuheitia.

FAQ’s

How do I vote?

The Election of Trustees in the general election will be carried out by postal and internet voting.

Voting papers will be sent to all tribal members whose names appear on the register as at 12 noon on Wednesday 7 April 2021.

When can I vote?

Voting for the general elections will open 23/04/21 and close 21/05/21.

RMC elections will take place at RMC hui as identified on the RMC hui dates table on the right.

Where do I find the nomination form?

Nominations have now closed.

Who carries out the voting process?

The Independent Election company carrying out the election process will be undertaken by Electionz.

Where are the RMC hui?

RMC hui and dates were advertised in relevant newspapers by the RMC’s.
