GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS – NOW OPEN

The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) and Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) provides annual charitable grants intended to support, enable and facilitate registered tribal members and approved groups to achieve the following key charitable objectives:

  • Strengthen cultural identity and wellbeing;
  • Support the advancement of education;
  • Encourage relationships regardless of where tribal members reside;
  • Any other matters beneficial to the community of Ngāti Maniapoto me ona hapū maha.

The distribution of charitable grants is guided by the MMTB and MFT Distribution policy, which is reviewed annually to ensure it remains current.  The policy ensures that there is a consistent criteria framework and good practice principles of fairness, clarity and transparency embedded throughout the Distributions process and procedures.

Sister Grace Scholarship

MMTB graciously acknowledges Sister Grace Margaret Clement for her endowment fund (2005) which provides an annual contribution towards Matauranga for Maniapoto.

The Sister Grace Scholarship has an annual allocation of $5,000.00 per year for one successful applicant. In the event that two recipients are successful, the allocation will be divided between both recipients.

Graymont (NZ) Limited Scholarship

MMTB kindly acknowledges our major sponsor Graymont (NZ) Ltd (formerly known as McDonalds Lime) for their annual contribution towards the Environmental Scholarship since 2011

The Graymont (NZ) Limited Scholarship has an annual allocation of $5,000.00 per year for the successful applicant.

EDUCATION GRANTS

Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) provides an annual allocation towards Category One-Education for all registered tribal members. An education grant can financially contribute towards school fees, sports fees, school related activities, and uniforms etc.

Education applicants include:

  • Home-education,
  • Te Kura,
  • Alternative Education, or
  • Students enrolled in a Kohanga Reo/ECE, Primary/Intermediate, Secondary education in New Zealand only;
  • Applicants enrolled in NZ with a NZ Tertiary provider including Industry, Workplace or a Private Training Establishment.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  1. Meet the Eligibility Criteria
    • At least one Maniapoto parent is registered to make an application for under 18 registered members
    • 18+ tertiary applicants must be fully registered on the Maniapoto Tribal Register;
  2. Meet the Application Criteria
    • Provide confirmation letter/email from centre, school or Tertiary provider confirming enrolment;
    • Provide proof of schools bank account including the schools email address for the remittance advice;
    • For Tertiary applicants, proof of your bank account.

Early Childhood / Kohanga Reo Grant (Age: 0-5 years)

Please Note: 

  1. The value of the grant payment is targeted towards ECE/Kohanga related activities
  2. Grants will be paid directly to the child’s ECE/Kohanga’s bank account
  3. Grants cannot be exchanged for cash.  If the child leaves and the grant cannot be used, the grant shall be returned to MFT
  4. Parents to have the conversation with their Centre where their grant should be exhausted

Application Criteria:

  1. At least one Parent must be fully registered on the MMTB Tribal Register
  2. Applicants must reside in New Zealand and be enrolled with a ECE/Kohanga in NZ
  3. Priority will be given to first-time applicants who have not previously applied
  4. Late or Incomplete applications will not be accepted

Primary Education Grant (Year 1 – Year 8)

  1. The value of the grant payment is targeted towards Primary related activities
  2. Grants will be paid directly to the Schools bank account
  3. Grants can’t be exchanged for cash.  Grants cannot follow the child to a new school.  If the Primary grant cannot be exhausted, the grant shall be returned to MFT
  4. Parents to contact the school where they would like their child’s grant to be exhausted

Application Criteria:

  1. At least one Parent must be fully registered on the MMTB Tribal Register
  2. Applicants must reside in New Zealand and be enrolled with a Primary school in NZ
  3. Priority will be given to first-time applicants who have not previously applied
  4. Late applications received after the closing date or the application is complete will not be accepted

Secondary School Grant (Year 9 – Year 13)

Please Note: 

  1. The value of the grant payment is targeted towards Secondary related activities
  2. Grants will be paid directly to the Schools bank account
  3. Grants can’t be exchanged for cash.  Grants cannot follow the child to a new school.  If the Secondary grant cannot be exhausted, the grant shall be returned to MFT
  4. Parents to contact the school where they would like their child’s grant to be exhausted

Application Criteria:

  1. At least one Parent must be fully registered on the MMTB Tribal Register
  2. Applicants must reside in New Zealand and be enrolled with a Secondary school in NZ
  3. Priority will be given to first-time applicants who have not previously applied
  4. Late applications received after the closing date or the application is complete will not be accepted

Tertiary Education Grant

Application Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be fully registered on the Maniapoto Tribal Register
  2. Applicants must be enrolled with a NZ Tertiary Provider and have a verified NZ bank account
  3. Priority will be given to first-time applicants who have not previously applied
  4. Late applications received after the closing date will be unsuccessful
  5. Incomplete applications that have not provided the correct information will not be accepted

 

Please Provide:

  1. Copy of your Enrolment letter (not a Letter of Offer) from your NZ Tertiary Provider which confirms Level of Study for the period 2021/22 so you receive the correct grant value
  2. Attach a copy of your NZ bank account details
  3. Postgraduate, Masters or PhD students choose an essay topic and attach to application

Cultural and Health Grants for Rōpu

These grants are targeted at initiatives that seek to improve the wellbeing, prosperity, health and cultural competency of Maniapoto.  This fund is specific to a group of tribal members rather than individuals.

Examples of initiatives may include but not limited to: 

  • Whakapapa wānanga for whanau, hapū and marae in Maniapoto
  • Tikanga wānanga for whānau, hapū or marae in Maniapoto
  • Wānanga that promotes health and wellbeing for whānau, hapū or marae in Maniapoto
  • Training programs that help grow whānau, hapū, marae, committees or trustees that promotes financial literacy, governance training, Health & Safety training, Taiao training etc.

Rōpu Grant

The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) and Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) provide funding assistance to those fully registered on the MMTB/MFT Tribal Register and welcome your application for possible financial assistance.  The funding is for groups who seek to improve the wellbeing, prosperity, health and cultural competencies for their marae, whanau or hapu of Maniapoto at home in Maniapoto.

Discretionary Grant

The Maniapoto Māori Trust Board (MMTB) and Maniapoto Fisheries Trust (MFT) provide funding assistance to those fully registered on the MMTB/MFT Tribal Register and welcome your application for possible financial assistance. The one-off funding requests from individuals/groups for purposes that fall outside of Category One and Two but demonstrates benefits to Maniapoto Iwi of a charitable nature. This will also include emergencies such as natural disasters.
